Returning and Starting Over

Hi!

So, I'm starting over with this blog. It's now going to be mostly about my writing because I'm always writing and it'll be easier to post on an almost daily basis. I might give my fans this address too for updates about my books (hopefully In The Strawberry Patch will be done soon... in time for the holidays =] ). I talked to Lawrence the other day, he served in the military and went to Afghanistan. He's going to talk to his buddies that are serving and have served in Iraq and/or Afghanistan so I can interview them for my book (The Decade of Fame Technology and Angst). I'm going to have to go through questions and make sure they'll be okay to ask -- I don't want to ask someone something very personal and send them back into a panic attack (that's what I always worry about with soldiers and refugees). Speaking of refugees, I need to interview more of the members of Acrassicauda. They are from Iraq and very sweet.

Well, I have to get ready for a doctor's appointment. I'll be working on some writing then. Post later.

No Longer Muslim

Hi All,

I'm no longer Muslim. I just felt it wasn't me. Being gay or asexual is a sin -- I am asexual. God created me and I don't think he would deny me as his creation. Also, since my family was non-Muslim, it was a sin living with them and having non Muslim friends. Also celebrating the holidays with them is a sin. Of course there are some other reasons. I will still read the Quran and study and I do think Islam is a nice religion (though not for me), but I don't want to practice anymore. I believe in one God, but I want to remain unaffiliated.

2 more days...

Hallo!

So, Sunday is my birthday. I will be 21 years old. No, no, I won't be imbibing alcohol because that goes against Islam and I won't be gambling either. It doesn't bother me, though, because I couldn't drink with my medication and well, alcoholism runs in the family so I don't want to drink. I can't believe I'll be 21, it feels like yesterday I was 13. On Monday it'll be my 8th anniversary at Deadjournal -- again, it feels like yesterday that I joined. I joined the day after my 13th birthday because I could sign up to be a member of any site without parental consent. ^_^

I know it's been a while since I updated, but I've been busy. I have been working, working out at the gym and working on my books. I also stayed with nan the past few nights. Next week I'm going to Virginia and won't be online for 3 days. I'm looking forward to the vacation. ^_^

Salaam!

Coexistence

Whatever happened to acceptance and peace?
All religions, whether mono or polytheist preach
love your brothers and sisters, mother and father.
Yet, some within all faiths don't even bother
to follow the word of their Holy Book
and perverting the message in lives they took.
Some followers of Christ want you to see the light,
Other believers' point of views cause a fight.
Some followers of Mohammed hold the sword,
Understand, no compulsion in religion is ignored.
Our media, in this land of the free,
Pervert the message of Islam as filthy
blood-hungry savages that kill all
or if one goes to Israel prepare to fall
a bloody death from Jewish suicide men.
As we were founded on rights numbering ten,
The first securing the right to worship
the God or Gods and lessons from their lips.
God Bless America, or the God taken out
for those who are uptight and pout.
Whatever happened to our rights
Different religions are an uncommon sight
because of the fear of being branded
instead of friendship and laughter banded.

Questions to consider:

1.) What were the positive aspects of this poem?
2.) What did you like least about this poem?
3.) What was the message you took from this poem?
4.) What kind of emotion did it envoke in you?

Other comments would be helpful!

Is it Summer Yet?

I'm so looking forward to summer and finish my book. I'm now writing about the Patriot Act and watching Fahrenheit 9/11.

Sorry

Hey everyone,

Sorry for the lack of an update this past week. It's official -- I reverted! ^^ I feel so happy about it too; this is the perfect fit. So, between that, studying and writing... I've been a busy girl.

Beautiful Days Be Upon Us

Hallo,

This weekend has been beautiful! Yesterday was a lovely 72 degrees and I spent most of my time in the sun. Nan and I went to visit Aunt Kelly (she's in a nursing home; she has Altzheimer's Disease), then to the Kitty Cottage to visit the cats. Nan really enjoyed that; some cats really liked her. I'm thinking about volunteering there over the summer for my charity work.

I prayed tonight! It felt so exhilarating and it wasn’t so overwhelming as I thought it was going to be. Besides remembering the Arabic recitations, which Mohamed and Dalia said is going to take me some time, it won’t be so bad to memorize. The prayer rituals are like exercises, which Mohamed explained they are resembling that. It’s just nice and peaceful; I’m at a loss for words because I just feel so happy.

Wesley's comeback!

Hallo!

Three years ago I built a cat at Build a Bear and named him Wesley. My high school friends became family members and now some of my college friends are family members as well. I'm trying to talk Chris, Dave's brother, into being his papa. Haha. Reese is his brother. I got a picture of Reese, Wesley and I today. Take a look. ^_^

Been busy

Hallo!

I'm sorry I haven't updated in a week, I've been busy. I had a movie night and sleepover last Friday and it was a lot of fun. It cheered me up a lot. Kendra, Alex, Mary, LJ and James came and we all watched Watchmen, Dr. Horrible's Singalong, and the Black Adder. They also had an Easter Egg hunt. I didn't participate since I hid them, but they had a lot of fun. Alex found the most eggs: 7. Alex and Kendra stayed the night and the next morning we watched Donya. RENT IT! It's an awesome movie from Iran and it's in Farsi. =]

It's been beautiful the past few days, and it feels nice to walk again. I need the exercise; I put on some weight since starting the medication. It's supposed to be 70 degrees on Saturday. =] I started a spiritual journal. I made it a private item on writing.com, but I am going to share it here as well. I will post yesterday's. Later I will post the entry from today.

I met with Professor Capehart today and told her about my reverting (as Taufique called it) to Islam. She asked me why and I explained to her that, “I like the structure of it. I like the more personal relationship with God that I couldn’t get in Catholicism. Growing up I had a Muslim friend and her family always welcomed me into their home and all the Muslims I have known in my lifetime have been very friendly and nice. I really like how the religion is about selflessness and it makes me feel at peace. The prayers are just relaxing.” She smiled and was happy that I have found something to believe in. Professor Capehart said it best, “Religion is for everyone. Spirituality is for those that have already been to Hell.” I’ve been to hell and back with family and person demons, I am and have always been in God’s hand.
I met with Mohamed today for lunch. It was really nice. I showed him my philosophical essay and the research I have done for my book that I’m going to be writing about how the media portrays Muslims and terrorism. He had a point: it would take thousands of pages to explain it all, but what I have is pretty good. Mohamed was telling me it is not in Muslim repertoire to really hate people, even if they do. The media never portrays that, which is sad. He had a point when he said, “Who has the most report of abuse and rape?” America mostly does, yet they want to focus on the bad of other cultures before looking at their own. We had nice conversations about religion too as I ate my chicken Caesar salad. It was such a beautiful day today and so warm; Mohamed drove me back to school and on the way, he had the windows down, the wind was blowing my pigtails and he blasted Outlandish. When we got back to campus, he parked and told me he enjoyed lunch and had no problem teaching me Arabic and having more religious discussions. We’re going to meet again. He told me about a Muslim group at the school that I’m going to join next year. I made a new friend. J
I am so happy I turned to Islam. I feel at peace and each time I read the Koran, the verses just speak to me and I just have this little spark and tender feeling deep inside me. I never had such a feeling before, but it’s great. Mary said it’s normal for when we believe in something so deeply. I love it. I told her I feel like a child by learning all the prayer rituals, but I can’t wait until I’m well versed in the Surrahs and techniques. It’s really beautiful.

Koran passage(s) for today:
“And when it is said to them: “Make not mischief on the earth,” they say: “We are only peace makers.” 2:11
“Verily! They are the ones that make mischief, but perceive not.” 2:12

Hello!

Hello everyone,

I am new here, but I am not new to blogging. I have been a member on Deadjournal.com since July 5, 2002 (the day after my 13th birthday); which means that I have been blogging since I was 13. =]

Anyway, my name is Jessica and I'm a sophomore at West Chester University. I'll be 21 on July 4 and I know what you're thinking, but I don't drink since it goes against my beliefs. I am a history major with minors in creative writing and philosophy. I am a moral girl and my beliefs are very important to me, though I'm still learning the power of them. I am currently working on a book called The Decade of Technology, Fame and Angst: The 2000s Decade, which after I'm done updating this I'm going to work on. I'm going to work on the essay about Muslims and how they are portrayed unfairly in the media.

Auf wiedersehen!
